Introducing......

“Morgan has captured the spirit of the Outer Banks.  I recommend this book to anyone interested in our region and its people.”
Marc Basnight, Manteo, N. C., President Pro Tem, N. C. State Senate.

John Morgan was born and raised in Washington, North Carolina, and spent summers at Hatteras, NC, with his maternal grandparents, Irv and Janette Stowe. He retired in 1992 from the Beaufort County Register of Deeds office where he served for 28 years.
Prior to being elected to the Register of Deeds office, John was Sports Editor of The Washington Daily News in his home town for thirteen and one-half years, and prior to that worked as a broadcaster on two local radio stations. This background gives John a wide perspective in remembering events that helped shape the Pamlico and Outer Banks, especially the rapid changes that have taken place during the last 50 years. From his personal experiences and his association with the people, not only of his home area, but of the Outer Banks and statewide, he has accumulated a wealth of material which is incorporated in this work covering a notable era in the history of the Pamlico and Outer Banks area. We hope the reader will gain from it some information about the area they may not have heard or read about before.

“Must reading about an interesting era of the Pamlico area and the Outer Banks of North Carolina.”
Ashley B. Futrell, Sr., Editor & Publisher Emeritus, The Washington (NC) Daily News.

John Morgan is president of the Beaufort County Mental Health Association which was organized in the early 1960's as an advocacy mental health program for the citizens of this area. The mission of this agency is to promote mental health awareness, provide mental health education, and improve the care and treatment of the mentally ill. Its primary focus is on educational advocacy in behalf of the mentally ill in the community, while trying to eliminate the stigma that surrounds mental illness.

If you would like to make a contribution to this organization, you can do so by purchasing John's new book, A Pleasant Gale on My Lee.  All proceeds from the sale of the book (above the cost of publishing) will go directly into the Beaufort County Mental Health Association's Endowment Fund.
