by Buddy Swain This is a series of true stories written by Buddy Swain as he recalls spending his summers with his grandparents at Hatteras in the 1940's and 1950s. The series centers around a time when life on the island was simple and the pressures of today's world did not exist. As you read these stories, you will be transported back to a place where there were no phones, electricty, running water, or highways. The only way off the island other than by boat was to drive on the beach all the way from Hatteras to Oregon Inlet. And back then, no one had four-wheel drive! We at HatterasOnMyMind hope our readers enjoy the following short story about one family's life in this little Outer Banks fishing village. Today, countless vacationers return to her shores where "time is slow and gracious, a companion not a master." You can contact Buddy at buddy@HatterasOnMyMind.com .
