A Pleasant Gale on My Lee
by
"John Irvin" Morgan

John Morgan spent many happy days with his maternal grandparents during summer vacations in the 1930's and 1940's.  His grandfather, Captain Irv Stowe, was captain of the "Ethel", a freight boat that ran from Hatteras to Elizabeth City, and his grandmother, Janette, was a midwife and housewife who assisted Dr. John Kenfield in the delivery of three generations of Hatteras children, many of whom bear her name.  John has keen recollections of the people and events of this era and has collected them in a book of his memoirs which is entitled: A Pleasant Gale on My Lee,  (Click Here to Order ) Hatterasonmymind.com is happy to share some of the stories from his publication.

Precious Memories
by Buddy Swain
This is a series of  true stories written by Buddy Swain as he recalls spending his summers with his grandparents at Hatteras in the 1940's and 1950s.  The series centers around a time when life on the island was simple and the pressures of  today's world did not exist.  As you read these stories,  you will be transported back to a place where there were no phones, electricty, running water, or highways.  The only way off the island other than by boat was to drive on the beach all the way from Hatteras to Oregon Inlet.  And back then, no one had four-wheel drive!  We at HatterasOnMyMind hope our readers enjoy the following short story about one family's life in this little Outer Banks fishing village. Today, countless vacationers return to her shores where "time is slow and gracious, a companion not a master."  You can contact Buddy at buddy@HatterasOnMyMind.com .
