Charge Secretary...Linda O'Neal
Charge SecretaryI am originally from Summerville, SC where I met my husband, Ervin Lee, while he was stationed at Charleston Air Force Base. I have had the opportunity to live overseas in Okinawa and the Philippines, as well as several states: S.C., Texas, N.C., New Mexico, and Washington, D.C. I have the joy of three children, all girls & all grown, and two grand-children. I also have the challenge and the blessing of having them all live within close proximity. I did not realize at the time that being involved with non-denominational settings in the military would prepare me to have such a wonderfully fulfilling job as secretary of Hatteras United Methodist Charge.

I have been Charge Secretary since 1983 when I was hired by Rev. Fred Roberts. It has been my privilege to work with eight pastors during my twenty-two year career. My job description varies from pastor to pastor, and I adjust my skills so that I can keep up with the talents and gifts of each one.

My office hours are flexible, especially since the church office is temporarily located in my home while our church is undergoing extensive repairs from Hurricane damage. My responsibilities include coordinating information and needs of the three churches, Little Grove, Buxton, and Hatteras, with the pastor and the members and friends of the congregations. When I first started this job, I had an old fashioned Rex Rotary and printed three bulletins and an occasional newsletter.

Throughout the years, more duties have been added. They include the Charge Newsletter, personalized funeral bulletins, membership certificates and other church documents, keeping a current membership of the three churches, notification of meetings, and Annual Charge Conference booklet and year-end reports to name a few.

Along with the duties of the church, I’m involved with the United Methodist Women, the Hatteras Ladies Fire Auxiliary, and FEPHI. I’m a 19 year cancer survivor which gives me empathy as a Stephen Ministry and because of this, I am much aware of God’s grace and thankful that I can enjoy my job and family. God is Good ! All the Time ! God is Good !
