Pastor
Cory B. Oliver assumed the pastoral role at Hatteras Charge UMC in
July, 2007. Before his appointment to the Hatteras Charge, Pastor Cory
served Epworth UMC in the Fayetteville District as the first full-time
pastor in the history of the church which was formed in the mid
1800’s. Under the leadership of the New District Board of
Ordained Ministry and Bishop Marion Edwards, Pastor Cory was appointed
July 2004 to serve in the North Carolina Annual Conference of the
United Methodist Church.
December 30th 1998 was a turning point to the life of Pastor Cory as he
experienced what is known biblically as a Damascus Road experience, a
similar principle as to the Apostle Paul. It was on this occasion
Pastor Cory witnessed the sovereign power of Almighty God’s
saving grace. Realizing his brokenness and the genuine need for
deliverance, Pastor Cory surrendered to the love of God that is given
by the grace of Jesus Christ. Activated to move forward in his
Christian walk, he found the desire to share with others his experience
with God. While he had been satisfied with secular employment before,
he was no longer finding fulfillment. It was during that time God was
calling him to the United Methodist Church and has been faithfully
pursuing the high calling of Christ Jesus to the world through the
local church.
Pastor Cory enjoys spending time with God through prayer, reading, and
fellowship. His greatest call personally is to be the best husband and
father, focusing on Almighty God’s love for the family. Pastor
Cory joined to his lovely bride Caprice and has been married since
November 1996. Together they share the joy of parenting two boys:
Brandon born in 1997 and Jadon born in 2001.
Native of Craven and Pamlico County, Pastor Cory has deep roots in the
life of Eastern North Carolina, but is very able adjust to different
geological places and cultures. In the spring 2008 Pastor Cory traveled
for the first time overseas to Cape Town, South Africa by invitation to
teach and preach the Good News of Jesus Christ. Pastor Cory’s
heart beats for a deep relationship with God and has been used to
preach revivals, camp meetings, healing and deliverance service. As his
ministry continues to unfold, he looks on with anticipation knowing the
best days of the Church are ahead of us. He has a few catch phrases and
a motto he quotes to himself often: “It’s All about
Jesus”; “While I’m with you, I pray that we will grow
closer to Jesus”; and “Keep Smiling!” and final
“Live life with no regrets.” |
